What is CrocTalk?
CrocTalk Conservation and Rescue, established in 2002, is based in the city of Kelowna, B.C., Canada, and promotes conservation efforts for crocodilians, African wild cats, and tortoises, through educational events called Croc “Talks”. The partners offer on-site and off-site Croc “Talks” for local residents and tourists in numerous settings and for many types of events such as: family outings, birthday parties, community functions, school outings, trade fairs, fund raisers and other special events. The interactive presentations are provided year-round, for a fee based on location, group size, type of event and unique factors.
CrocTalk’s mission is:
To establish and operate the CrocTalk Conservation and Rescue Centre as a world-class destination facility that provides a unique visitor experience based on conservation through education, while offering an entertaining environment that will attract local, national and international tourists and their families.
Since its inception in 2002, many thousands of people have learned through this one-of-a-kind interactive and educational presentation. On November 1, 2004, the partners were granted “Recognized Facility” status, a sanction by the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO), to use live specimens in all their presentations.
Fundamental to the CrocTalk Conservation and Rescue is the center’s 26 crocodilians, African wild cats, Sulcata tortoises, and other crocodilian-related animals. The partners own a replica of the largest crocodile skull ever to be found in one piece, called Gavialosuchus. They also possess a replicated skull display of Sarcosuchus Imperator - the SuperCroc. Known as the world’s largest crocodile that lived 110 million years ago, the partners were the first to acquire and present this exhibit in Canada.
The partners are actively seeking a suitable location to accommodate their current animals, thus establishing a permanent home for all animals at the CrocTalk Conservation and Rescue facility. The expansion will enable Mr. Illman and Ms. Bruce to, not only meet growing demands for larger groups of attendees, but will enable the partners to remain open to the public seven days per week throughout the year.
